Paul – your local carpenter in Birmingham
Carpentry is a term used to describe the process of working with wood and being able to make finished products based from this. A carpenter is a person whose profession or job this is.
Carpentry tends to be grouped together with building works, but like most things in life there is never one easy description or box it can be put in. I am a carpenter in the West Midlands and Birmingham.
Birmingham & West Midlands Carpenters – what should they do?
A carpenter deals with the forming, shaping and cutting of wood. All work involved requires a high level of skill and attention to detail. Whilst many people can undertake simple forms of carpentry or DIY, for the best results someone with training and experience is often preferred.
Carpenters work with a range of tools which allow them to gain the precision which has been mentioned. Some of these tools include spirit levels and mitre saws or more complicated power tools for example.
These days in the age of competition most carpenters rarely confine theirselves to just dealing with wood only, and as such people have either branched out into other areas, or work with contacts to ensure that a complete process or project can be provided.
You may have heard the terms ‘first fix’ and ‘second fix’ when it comes to carpentry and wonder what these mean. Simply put, first fix is the initial work which is done and can be thought of as working on the shell of the structure. The second fix tends to be the finishing off stage (after plastering) of a new build. Of course if you are a home owner and looking to make changes to your property then work on the latter stage is what should be focused on.
I am a carpenter in Birmingham UK, aswell as travelling outside to undertake carpentry in the West Midlands area generally.
